IMPACT Centre Director - Glen Watt presented with the award by Director General – Tony Cook.
The IMPACT Centre was awarded the prestigious
Peter Doherty STEM Education Partnership Award in August, 2018.
We were the sole winner of the partnership award, with the category open to university, industry and education centre applicants.
The awards are presented as part of National Science Week. Peter Doherty is a Brisbane-born Nobel Prize winning scientist.
The IMPACT Centre won the award because we were able to demonstrate:
a long-term commitment to increasing student participation and lifting student achievement through the fostering of curiosity, imagination, knowledge and enthusiasm for real-world science or technology or engineering or mathematics through schools;
enhancement of teacher capability through professional development and experiences that allow teachers to engage with contemporary STEM procedures, pedagogies and experiences beyond the classroom environment.
Congratulations to our team of inspiring specialist teachers and professional network leaders. The award is well deserved!
A big thanks is also due to our school, university and industry partners who have contributed so much to the IMPACT Centre’s growth, achievements and future direction. Developing partnerships with you and your teams is an integral contributor to our success.
The following IMPACT Centre student quotes were part of our successful application. They provide an excellent insight into the quality and accessibility of our inspiring online programs.
Tagai State College (Badu Island, Torres Strait): 'I am getting better at coding each week. I love working with my friends and with an online teacher and my mum is proud of me for participating in this program.'
Bedourie State School (near Birdsville): 'I learnt the scientific method, how to pose questions, make predictions and about the role of data in science!'
Noosa District SHS (Pomona): 'It makes me feel good knowing how much I have learnt in such a small time. Solve IT has helped me a lot with maths and I am now nailing it in class.'
Mansfield State High School (Brisbane South): 'It has not only helped me in the area of English but also in everyday situations and classes such as maths with problem solving which sometimes uses critical thinking. Thank you for a wonderful block of IMPACT critical thinking.'
